The governing coalition in New York collapsed. Really now? This makes Italian politics look stable and the fall of Romano Prodi from power look normal. Only in New York would two Democrats who seem to be peeved about not getting enough money for their pet projects lead liberal Democrats to break their alliance with the Democratic Party leadership in favor of voting for a conservative, Long Island Republican as the majority leader. Also only in New York would the two politicians in question both be in major legal trouble. The state senator from Queens that defected assaulted his partner. The state senator from the Bronx that defected is being investigated for corruption.
Okay, this could totally happen in New Jersey or Rhode Island, as well.
